Dear Mr. Sendak
I know you’re dead now, and that makes me miserably sad because I never got to meet you or know you. But most things make me miserably sad, so it’s okay. I bet now you’re in a place where all of the things you liked to write about and think about make sense, and maybe you wish that you could come back down here and tell us a little bit more about it, or maybe you’re just happy to watch us wander around confused and lost and scared and sometimes happy, but mostly sad. I think the purpose of this letter was to say thank you to your parents for coming over here on a boat from Poland because I don’t think your books would be as relatable if they were written in Polish.
